Barenaked Ladies.

The Rebbe gave a sicha once explaining klipah.* Why is the Jew so attracted to it? The Rebbe explained that the klipah purposely makes itself appealing to the Jew. For when the Jew acknowledges the klipah, he gives it tremendous chayes**. The klipah then thrives on this holy Jewish energy.

Which leads me to my problem:

There's a strip gentleman's club on my route to school. I hate it. Why does it have to be there? (Well, where else could it be, considering the aforesaid?) Every day I try to ignore it. This, too, gives it chayes. Because I acknowledge it's even there.

Of course, the building is all dolled up. It has an electronic sign describing its famous bachelor parties. It has big balloons streaming from the roof (and, lately, Santa and his entourage). The kids all oooh and ahhh over it when we pass. They
fix their precious eyes on the lights and balloons, giving the klipah way more than it deserves. I hate that part the most.

I wish it would just go away.

come on come on...there is much in the world that is nasty and different and sexy and not so sexy..if you didn't know from the schmutz how would you know from the nice things? Maven, you know from the schmutz which make other things look so much nicer. Your children will learn that to. You can't isolate..to isolate only brings out the will to wander.

There's lots of nastiness - evil - klipah - around us all. Our job is to rectify it, if we cannot rectify in the physical realm, then we must rectify in the spiritual realm.
I agree with stephanie saying that you can't isolate. Oh Maven, if you had a TV and watched the commercials - oy and oy and oy. You wouldn't believe what your eyes were seeing.
Let the Light shine through - that's all we can do.

Stephanie is right -- although some of it is just blight! My kids got to an orthodox day school. Right next to the school is a strip club. The dancers can sometimes been seen in the alley smoking while parents are doing carpool. Just up the street is a store called "Trashy Lingerie." And all around are large billboards of scantily clad women selling designer this or designer that. Fortunately, my kids are grounded enough (and feminist enough) to put these images in perspective.
