what the article doesn't mention is that when I got halfway down staircase C (after discovering that staircase A was totally impassable due to smoke) the DOOR WAS LOCKED!!! So, there we are, must have been 40 or 50 folks (dunno, maybe it was more, I got stuck at the 4th floor) in the stairwell, while the building ostensibly is burning down around us. huzzah!
so a fireman pokes his head into the stairwell right next to me (4th floor) and says, 'fire's out, you can either go out or go back up to your room.' so, rather then run out into the manhattan street in my pj's, I figure i'll just go back up to the room and deal with it, right? I go up, put a towel around my face and proceed to just hang out and wait until 430am when the smoke was clear enough for me to breathe without the towel. I shoulda left right away. Lesson learned.
So, now i'm in another hotel. Hopefully that was my one glitch for the mission...can't wait to get home!
(Maven want's I should start my own blog...what say you?)
hunny, i can tell you right now what your blog would be like: rants about peak oil, the housing bubble, gun control, the grateful dead, yiddishkeit, NASA/space happenings, programming jargon, science fiction, trains/model railroading, and other nerdy pursuits. (not necessarily in that order.)
RL, ayelet, and eden - thank you for the sentiments! he's ok, but admittedly freaked out. he had a hard time sleeping last night.
anon - i will tell him! i also enjoy many of his hobbies, and appreciate him because of them. whether he wants to blog or not is his deal. (can you imagine 2 bloggers in one house?)
re: the cereal, this is a matter of pas or bishul yisroel, something i went into detail about a few posts back. of course, it's always wise to be on the lookout for bugs anyway. i also check grains and flour. besides being a kashrus issue, it's just gross. nobody wants to eat bugs, whether they keep kosher or not! although i understand locusts are a delicacy in china...
I would love the blog! As a fellow anxiety mavenette, why not hear about the joys of being associated with one? (Maybe my chosson could find some solace? :))

Maven--Yaakov's blog sounds great...right up my alley...tell him to start at once.
I don't understand about the cereal... I get that the light box is to examine veggies for tiny bugs, but is there a similar problem with boxed cereal?
